About the position 

We are currently working with a world leader in the design and manufacture of refuse collection vehicles, with an established reputation for supplying quality products that meet the highest expectations in terms of performance, cost and delivery. 

Committed to the continued development of innovative solutions for the waste and recycling market, the company provides complete vehicle solutions, producing refuse collection bodies, chassis and bin lifts.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work to industry and Engineering standards and practices.
  • Design of electrical systems and components for specialist recycling vehicles and associated equipment.
  • Design of pneumatic and hydraulic circuits.
  • Writing and modifying PLC programmes using Codesys software.
  • Validation of safety circuit and control circuits to required performance levels.
  • Liaison with external suppliers.
  • Compilation of Engineering Master Parts Lists (BOM), design release documentation and works instructions. Problem solving where required for associated systems/parts.
  • Team working and effective communications.
  • Able to communicate effectively with all levels within the company (written/verbal) Able to communicate effectively with external suppliers/customers.
  • Demonstrable team skills.
  • Open, honest and timely reporting of tasks.
  • Responsible for the management, compliance and upkeep of the quality & environmental procedures, records, and documents relevant to the role.

Experience Required:

  • Experience of electrical engineering principles.
  • Experience of electrical schematic design.
  • Experience of writing PLC programmes using Codesys software or similar.
  • Understanding of validating programmes and control systems in accordance with performance levels using Sistema software or similar.
  • Knowledge of using AutoCAD or similar 2D drawing package.
  • Demonstrates the ability to optimise quality/cost/timing.
  • Working to ISO 9001 quality processes.
  • Experience with trucks, Yellow Goods, or related products, with low volumes and high complexity.
  • Understanding of hydraulic engineering principles and design.
  • Understanding of pneumatic engineering principles.
  • Practical electrical engineering experience in a production facility.
  • 5 years Drawing/design office experience.
  • Proficient using Autodesk AutoCAD or similar.
  • HNC/HND/Degree or sufficient experience to demonstrate equivalent level of knowledge.
  • Job-related skills & abilities.
  • Ability to communicate (verbally & written) at all levels in the business.
  • Proficient operator of Microsoft Office products.
  • Capable of multitasking in a busy environment.
  • Attention to detail and completer/finisher.
  • Ability to act on own initiative.
  • Working within a team environment.
  • Clear communicator.
  • Attendance of relevant training courses off site.
  • Required to measure/inspect in, around, under and on top of vehicles.
  • Overtime required when needed.
  • Ability & willingness to travel throughout the UK and possibly overseas when required.
