About the role 

The Operations Lead will be key to ensuring that the APU Service Centre meets its business objectives, providing a high-quality repair and overhaul service to third party customers, and a ship-shop-ship service to Base Maintenance. The successful candidate will lead a cohesive team in delivering the business unit budget by providing optimum service through effective management of the team and resources.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and monitor the work queue in the shop in conjunction with Demand Management: respond to changing priorities and customer requirements by scheduling and adjusting the workload and the use of resources to achieve the optimum benefit from resources expended.
  • Ensure compliance with the standards laid down by the relevant Airworthiness Authorities, CMM and IPC requirements, and Company Procedures. Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in and adjacent to the workshop in the interest of quality and safety and to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Report all technical and airworthiness issues to the Safety and Compliance Manager and ensure immediate corrective action is taken in respect of audit findings by DAL Compliance and other regulatory agencies.
  • Be proactive in ensuring that costs are controlled and that budgetary targets are achieved.
  • Ensure all billable hours and materials are captured in the Company ERP system.
  • Ensure all documentation, including customer specific items, quotes, strip reports, and computer updates are always completed and maintained up to date.
  • Manage all personnel and resources within the workshop with an emphasis on staff engagement and maintaining a culture based on excellent team working and customer focus.
  • Support the commercial and sales teams in a technical, customer support and commercial function including managing the day-to-day communication and interaction with contracted and repeat customers.
  • Identify and manage projects to increase internal capability on APU’s, APU components and piece part repairs.
  • Maintain effective communications with other departments including materials support and workshops throughout the company as necessary.
  • Keep up to date on technical matters relevant to the workshop regarding CMM updates, test specification revisions, modifications & new capability development.

Skills and Experience:

  • 3rd level qualification or time-served Apprenticeship in a relevant discipline with management experience.
  • APU Repair and Overhaul or similar engine/production type background with a range of workshop approvals on components will be an advantage.
  • Possess a common sense and flexible approach to changing priorities and customer demands at short notice.
  • An ability to manage, motivate and develop individual staff and teams.
  • Analytical, decision making, planning and organisational skills.
  • Confident with IT applications with ERP experience.
