About this position: 

The world’s largest independent company for the development, simulation and testing of powertrain systems (hybrid, combustion engine, transmission, electric drive, batteries, fuel cell and control technology) for passenger cars, commercial vehicles, construction, large engines and their integration into the vehicle.
The Methodology & Test Engineer will play a vital role in a state-of-the-art powertrain testing facility. This role will support the test field in writing the test automation, trouble shooting and validating the tests on rig. In addition, they will interact with internal/external customers on requirements capture and test delivery coordination.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Definition and development of methods, processes and tools for ensuring highly efficient testing on various powertrain testbeds
  • Take responsibility for the “unit-under-test” from installation and setup through to assessing its condition after testing is complete
  • Managing delivery of rig tests and present the results in customer meetings
  • Develop automated test programmes
  • Actively support the team in both technical and methodological areas
  • Ensure the testbeds are able to operate efficiently and deliver high quality results
  • Act as a focal point for test automation support and advice
  • You may be required to do other work within your capability which the company may require from time-to-time

Experience Required:

  • Working towards B.Sc. / M.Eng. level in a relevant engineering area (Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical)
  • Experience in Powertrain, engine, EV components testing i.e., Inverter eDrive, DC-DC, and development or engine control/calibration desirable
  • Knowledge about vehicle dynamics and powertrain architecture beneficial and  test rig infrastructure (fuelling, coolant, air supply etc);
  • Developing creative and unconventional ideas (“thinking outside the box”)
  • Team spirit, creativity, sense of responsibility
  • Ability to co-operate with other AVL employees/departments
  • Identifying faults and initiating the necessary measures to solve them
  • Ability to work independently and reliably:
  • Experience with data analysis tools (Concerto, Matlab, INCA, MDA, etc.) and network analysis tools (CANalyzer etc.)
